We had such a fun show in Verndale. Thanks to all of you who attended and helped out at the show.

The YOUTH hosted our exhibitor dinner, thanks to all the youth and adults who helped make that happen. The s’mores table and bonfire was a hit again (I love the different ways you can make s’mores. Who knew?). Thank you to Jen Filek and Julia Charlsen for the bonfire treats. The Youth also sponsored the Ride-A-Buck fun class. THAT was entertaining!

We have a wonderful show weekend planned for our show in August including some fun activities, an exhibitor dinner hosted by Victory Lane Academy, along with complimentary breakfast treats and coffee. A mixer event, a costume class and several fun games sponsored by the MPtHA Youth Team round out the weekend. And if that’s not enough, we have four amazing judges and great members exhibiting really nice horses. It will be a great weekend. Come and join us!

Don’t forget, we also have our youth scholarships that are based on High Point by division awarded for EACH SHOW. Don’t miss out on this opportunity.

Thank you to our volunteer coordinator, Julia Charlsen who helps to staff all of our volunteer positions. If you want to get involved and get to know people quickly, contact Julia. Right now, I know we are in need of someone to take charge of the amazing annual Directory. This is such an important PR piece for us as well as a keepsake for our exhibitors. If you have the time, interest and skills, please let us know right away. Plans are already in the works. She also has several other jobs, of all sizes, if you want to get involved.

We hope to see you all at our show at Minnesota Equestrian Center in August!

Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again. – Og Mandino

July 2017

Can you believe it’s the middle of summer already! Our July show is coming up very quickly but it’s not too late to reserve a stall. Check out our website for the reservation form.

If you haven’t already pre-entered online, you have until Sunday, July 9th to do that. Entering on-line is easy and makes check in at the show much easier. We will be devoting a computer to check in online entries only. No standing in line behind someone entering at the show. Also, if you pre-enter online you will be entered in a drawing for a $25 Pinto Buck!

Don’t miss our dinner on Friday night – staffed by our YOUTH club! Join us in the office/cafeteria area for a FREE exhibitor dinner!

For those of you attending your first Minnesota Pinto show of the year, please take note that Minnesota Pinto is continuing the EHV Vaccination Policy for all Minnesota Pinto shows. We take the current climate of EHV and the protection of our Pintos very seriously and have used the USEF 2016 rule as a guide for our vaccination policy. Please provide your vaccination proof, along with your Coggins to the show office. Horses not in compliance with Coggins and EHV Vaccinations will not be allowed to stay on the show grounds.

Congratulations to all of the Minnesota Pinto members who traveled to the Pinto World Championship in Tulsa Oklahoma. As always, Minnesota Pinto members represented well at PWC. Some of the many accomplishments of our members showing in Tulsa include multiple High Point and Reserve High Point awards, tens and tens of World Champions and Reserve World Champions and Zone Invitational Championships. Just goes to show the great competition and high quality horses we have in MINNESOTA PINTO. Our exhibitors and horses are some of the best in the country.

We have set our dates for the 2018 show season, pending approval by PtHA (at the end of 2017) be sure to mark your calendars for the MINNESOTA PINTO shows in 2018!

If you are interested in helping MINNESOTA PINTO please take a look at the volunteer opportunities we have listed in the newsletter or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Julia Charlsen. And THANK YOU to Julia Charlsen and Missy Bertz for taking on Year End Awards this year!

It takes a lot of hands to make our club work and the overwhelming majority of them are volunteers who give willingly of their time. Please take some time, here and there, to appreciate them and the work they do for all of us. We all try to keep things running smoothly but that doesn’t always happen. As they say, “Life Happens”. Please remember, it’s easy to complain and criticize, but should be just as easy to compliment and appreciate. All of us are busy with other responsibilities and commitments and it takes special people to volunteer for additional work and responsibilities. I know the Board of Directors and most of our members appreciate the work of our volunteers but an individual “THANK YOU” goes a long way.

We’ll see you all in in Verndale soon!

June 2017

The May show has come and gone, it was great to see such great participation, nice-sized classes and high quality horses. Thank you to our amazing staff, judges and volunteers! We couldn’t do these shows without all of your hard work.

It’s not too early to send in your stalls and show entries for the July show in Verndale at R & J Arena, July 14th-16th.

The Pinto World Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma begins in a few short days. Good luck to our members heading to the PWC. As usual, we have a large group representing Minnesota that is stalling together, which provides great camaraderie, support and just plain fun. We will post updates from the Minnesota group on our Facebook page throughout the show. You can also watch classes on the PtHA webcast at www.pinto.org.

We hope to see you all in Verndale at the July show! Have a safe and happy June.

May 2017

May has arrived and with it the 2017 show season begins. Thank you to the Expo Chairs and all the volunteers that helped make the MPtHA Booth a success!

The first show is just a couple of weeks away. Stalling must be post marked no later than May 12th for the best rate, and you can enter online for classes now. It’s really helpful at our first show, if we have information early as we need to make sure we have papers, memberships, Coggins, vaccination reports, etc. You can scan and email, or mail those forms to our Show Office Manager, Karie Daudt.

Please consider helping MINNESOTA PINTO and take a look at the volunteer opportunities we have listed in the newsletter or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Julia Charlsen. It takes a lot of work to run a club our size and we rely on our volunteers to help us, and every little bit helps!

April 2017

It’s April and that means Spring is officially here along with foaling season and the Minnesota Horse Expo. The first Minnesota Pinto show is next month!

The Expo is a fun way for horse people to come together and exchange ideas, not to mention buy a few things! This is a big PR opportunity for MINNESOTA PINTO and we’d love it if you would take some time out of your weekend and volunteer to talk with people about MINNESOTA PINTO at our booth. Please contact Maddi Miller, Brenna Raum or Julia Charlsen to schedule a shift. Thank you to our new co-chairs Brenna and Maddi, and our past co-chair and mentor Regina Woolson, for heading the Expo this year.

Everyone should have received their Minnesota Pinto Directory. If you haven’t received it, please check with our membership chair, Kari Kay Berg, to make sure that you are a current member and that we have your correct address. For over 25 years, members have looked forward to this time of the year, seeing the Minnesota Pinto Directory and all of our members’ accomplishments. Special thanks to the Directory Chair Tammy Nielsen.

The first show is right around the corner and it’s not too early to fill out your stalling requests and entry forms. It’s really helpful at our first show if we have information early as we need to make sure we have papers, memberships, Coggins/vaccination reports, etc. You can scan and email, or mail those forms to our Show Office Manager, Karie Daudt.

Please take note that Minnesota Pinto is continuing the EHV Vaccination Policy for all Minnesota Pinto shows. We take the current climate of EHV and the protection of our Pintos very seriously and have used the USEF 2016 rule as a guide for our vaccination policy. If you are interested in helping MINNESOTA PINTO please take a look at the volunteer opportunities we have listed in the newsletter or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Julia Charlsen. It takes a lot of work to run a club our size and we rely on our volunteers to help us.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the MINNESOTA PINTO shows in 2017! We have a couple of changes, including changes to our showbill. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

March 2017

With the start of March that means that Spring is right around the corner. Some would argue it began in February this year! As I write this it’s the end of February and warm, feels like April. Time to start cleaning and organizing the trailer, inventorying tack and supplies, planning the show dates, and clipping horses. The first show will be here before we know it!

The 2017 Minnesota Pinto Directory is being printed. It will be delivered for distribution at the PtHA Convention and arrive in your mailbox this month. Thank you to all of our advertisers. I can’t wait to see all of the show accomplishments of our members. HUGE THANK YOU to Tammy Nielsen for handling the Directory this year. As always, our Directory looks great; something to be proud of and I think everyone will love it.

The PtHA Convention in Oklahoma is right around the corner. It’s not too late to sign up to attend. Lots of good behind the scenes knowledge is gained if you can attend the convention.

Expo is right around the corner too. This is a big PR opportunity for MINNESOTA PINTO and we’d love it if you would take some time out of your weekend and volunteer to talk with people about MINNESOTA PINTO at our booth. Please contact Brenna Raum, Maddi Miller, or Julia Charlsen to schedule a shift.

Please mark our 2017 show dates on your calendar. We can’t wait to see everyone in May (and hopefully at the Expo too!)

If you are interested in helping MINNESOTA PINTO please take a look at the volunteer opportunities we have listed in the newsletter and on the website. We have a few positions we need help with and a couple larger chair positions including Directory and Year End Awards co-chairs. It’s a great time to start a new volunteer job!

February 2017

I hope everyone had a great time at the MINNESOTA Pinto Banquet. There is always so much work that goes into awards and the banquet and everyone is always stressed until the banquet starts – and it’s always a good time. Thank you so much to our amazing committee members.

As I mentioned at the banquet, we will have two showbills for 2017, one in Verndale and one in Winona. This was the only way our committee and Board of Directors could fit in the classes (and the size of the classes) in and still keep our shows at three days. Look for the 2017 Showbills on our website and Facebook page once they are approved.

The 2017 Minnesota Pinto Directory is nearly complete and on its way to the printer. Thank you to all of our advertisers. Such a great way for our members to commemorate their show year accomplishments and for MINNESOTA PINTO it’s a key marketing tool. A HUGE thank you to Tammy Nielsen for doing such a wonderful job on a big project! It’s always such a fun treat to get these delivered in the mail.

We are also working on updating our Year End Award Rules. Once approved, they will be posted on our website, and we’ll put an update on Facebook and in the newsletter. I can’t stress enough, how important it is for everyone to read and understand the rules for the award program. It may not seem important right now but it could be very important to you by the end of the show season.

January and February is both a time to relax after a busy year and prepare for the upcoming show season. It seems to be the time to buy and sell horses, upgrade tack and trailers and update show clothes without the pressure of packing the trailer, an exciting time of new plans and dreams!

Enjoy the quiet time and if you are interested in helping MINNESOTA PINTO please take a look at the volunteer opportunities we have listed in the newsletter. It’s a great time to incorporate a new volunteer job into the coming year.

Here’s to a mild remainder of the Winter and an early (and not too wet) Spring!

January 2017

Happy New Year from Minnesota Pinto! We had such a great time in 2016 and have so many new members and exhibitors. We hope you join us for the 2017 Show Season.

We are waiting for approval from PtHA on our Showbills for 2017. The 2017 Showbill will be posted as soon as it’s approved. We are planning to host FOUR 3-day shows this year, two at Minnesota Equestrian Center in Winona, and two at R & J Arena in Verndale. Stay tuned to the MPtHA Website and our Facebook page for details.

It’s not too late to place your ad in our 2017 Minnesota Pinto Directory. Send in your ad request now to Tammy Nielsen and visit the website for details and the advertising form. We are auctioning off the front and back covers at the banquet again this year. The printed Directory goes to 2,000 homes in the five-state area. Our web-edition is available worldwide on our website. The Directory is going to be great this year so don’t miss the opportunity to commemorate your season or do some marketing.

You should have received your invitation electronically, for the Minnesota Pinto Banquet in Rogers on January 28, 2017. Please respond today before it gets lost in the post-holiday clutter! If you haven’t received your invitation visit the website or Facebook page and you can access it from there. In addition to socializing and award recognition, we will have some great items to bid on and if you have any items for the auction or raffle, please bring them along or contact Shannon Shermann she would love them before the banquet.

If you have any photos you’d like included in the slideshow at the banquet, please send them in the next week to minnesotapinto@gmail.com.

We had a wonderful year of volunteers in 2016. So nice to get to know so many of you and have the work load spread around, THANK YOU to all of you! We have several volunteer opportunities available for those of you willing to get involved and help out. It takes a tremendous amount of people to run Minnesota Pinto but as they say, “Many hands make light (okay, lighter) work”. If you are willing to help out, please contact me or Julia Charlsen. Most jobs don’t take a huge time commitment but would lighten the load of our existing volunteers and ensure our great shows continue to run smoothly. It’s a great way to get to know members of Minnesota Pinto and give a little bit back.

I’m not much for New Year’s resolutions but I liked both of these. I included the first one last January, but seemed very appropriate for this year. Here’s to a healthy and happy 2017 us all!

December 2016

What an amazing November! Thank you to our hard-working Show Bill Committee. We are in the last stages of finalizing our Show Bill for 2017. We are thankful for all the input and suggestions on the Show Bill, and have taken each one into consideration. However, due to time constraints and the class schedules, this year was a tough sell for new classes and we are unable to add all of the requested classes. The Board charged the committee with decreasing the length of each of our days. In order to do that, they had to cut some classes but were very creative. They tried, and I think succeeded, in spreading the changes amongst all of our groups. The 2017 Show Bill will be posted as soon as it’s approved. Please know that we gave thoughtful consideration to MANY options and suggestions and we came up with what we thought was the best Show Bill for Minnesota Pinto as an organization.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! To our volunteers who helped calculate and audit our year-end points. You are all amazing and dedicated people and are much appreciated!

It’s time to place your ad in the 2017 Minnesota Pinto Directory. Forms are found on our website. Send in your ad request now to Tammy Nielsen and visit the website for details. We are auctioning off the front and back covers at the banquet again this year. The Directory goes to all PtHA members in the upper Midwest.

Mark your calendars for the Minnesota Pinto Banquet in Rogers on January 28, 2017. Keep watching our website and the MPtHA Facebook page for details. This year, the invitation will not be mailed but will come electronically through email and Facebook; you can also find a link for it in the Newsletter. Please don’t forget, we need items for the raffle and our silent auction. The proceeds from the silent auction and raffle go to subsidize banquet tickets (by about 50%). If you have any items to donate or are willing to help solicit for items, please contact Shannon Schermann by email or at 320-224-3332.

If you have any photos you’d like included in the slideshow at the banquet, please send to www.minnesotapinto@gmail.com

November 2016

Happy fall! I love this time of the year…a nip in the air, no bugs and trail riding in the leaves. (Not so much the prep for winter…)

The results of our election are found elsewhere in the newsletter, but I’d like to thank Matt May for collecting and tallying our votes. I also want to thank Bridget Eisinger and Matt May for their time on the Board of Directors, and to Matt for his time as a great Vice President. Congratulations to Sally Daluge on her election to the Board of Directors and to John Hanson as Vice President. Thank you to all of our dedicated Board of Director volunteers who graciously donate their time to run Minnesota Pinto. We always have such a great team.

Anyone who has served on the Board of Directors or been involved with committees realizes that these volunteers do much more than go to meetings once a month. They have many volunteer positions within Minnesota Pinto and truly put the best interest of the club and its members first.

And thank you to all of you that took the time to vote.

Our Show Bill Committee has received member and board input on the 2017 Show Bill and has started working on a recommendation to the Board. As a board and show committee, we feel the shows ran pretty well so we are just doing some fine-tuning for the regular show bill. It’s always a difficult process, but we try very hard to be logical and fair amongst and between the types of pinto horses. The show bill will be published when it is finalized. The deadline for show applications and finalized showbill to PtHA is December 31.

Thank you to all of our members that attended the General Membership meeting and to all of our committee chairs who updated the membership on the business of the club. We had a good meeting, GREAT food and a lot of fun just getting together.

Mark your calendars for the Minnesota Pinto Banquet in Rogers on January 28, 2016. Keep watching our website and Facebook page for details. Plans are underway for the 2017 Minnesota Pinto Directory. Send in your ad request now to Tammy Nielsen and visit the website for details. We are auctioning off the back cover and the front cover at the banquet again this year. The Directory will go to all PtHA members in the upper Midwest.

October 2016

We had a great 2016 Show Season and got to know a lot of new members. Our September Celebration was a GREAT way to end our show season. We hope you enjoyed showing with MINNESOTA PINTO in 2016 and join us again next year. You won’t find larger shows and more points anywhere in the country than in Minnesota.

We have such an amazing group of people to run the Minnesota Pinto Shows and so many others that make the shows possible in the first place. I want to thank all of you and encourage all of our members to do the same. I’d also like to thank our great group of judges this year as well as our fantastic judge coordinators, Mary Noonan and Kirsten Skillings. We could not run our shows without all of you and we appreciate all of the effort and skill you bring to Minnesota Pinto. You’re awesome!

Special thanks to the YOUTH for serving Tacos in a bag on Friday night. And thank you to our hard-working Youth Advisors for all they’ve done for the Youth and Minnesota Pinto this year.

I want to give a belated THANK YOU to Kathy Findley and her group from Whispering Willow Farm for the wine, champagne and cheese bar at the Jubilee Show. This was such a great surprise to us and really added to the night. Thanks to all of you for the wonderful surprise and contribution to the Jubilee show. (We may have to make this a regular thing during our show season!)

Please watch your mail for election ballots from Minnesota Pinto. Both the YOUTH and Main club will be sending voting ballots to members for the upcoming election. The Main club ballot also includes some awards that are voted on. Please cast your votes and send your ballots back.

Don’t miss out on the General Membership meeting at the Independence Community Center on October 30th. There will be a youth meeting prior to the General Membership meeting and also a potluck after the meeting. (I hear there are treats for kids at the Youth meeting…)

Tammy Nielsen is working on the Directory for 2017. We’ll be auctioning off the FRONT COVER and BACK COVER at the banquet in January. It’s not too early to reserve your spot. Check out the website for the reservation form. The Minnesota Pinto Directory is a great way to recognize your accomplishments of the year or market your horses or business. Look for our flyer on our website and on Facebook and start thinking of ideas for your ad. We print and distribute 2,000 directories in the upper Midwest.

We are also processing points for year-end awards. Those will be checked and double-checked and the awards letters will go out to winners in November. We’ll update you on the Facebook page.

Thanks to all of you for a great show season!

September 2016

What a GREAT Jubilee show we had thanks to our staff and exhibitors! Four days of fun and great competition. Our judges were outstanding as was our show staff, who always work so hard to put on a great show. I hope everyone enjoyed the slower pace of the show. Thanks to our YOUTH and advisors for some fun events from crafting, letter writing, musical buckets, flower sales, Lois Greiman books, WOW, it was a ton of fun. Thank you to Iowa Pinto and Woodford Training for helping to host the social hour at the Tiki Bar! And thanks to French Lake Equestrian and Jenna Jarboe Training for hosting the dinner Thursday night and Frost Training for breakfast treats.

The Last Blast Show in September in Verndale is next week; we hope to see many of you there! We will be back to our usual Show Bill with some fun activities thrown in. Stalls needed to be postmarked by September 1st but we can take stalls even at the show. We’d love to see you there.

Thank you to our wonderful volunteer coordinator, Julia Charlsen who helps staff all of our volunteer positions. Thank you for all your work this year!

If you want to get involved and get to know people quickly, contact Julia. If you have some time, we’d appreciate the help! She has several jobs of all sizes.

August 2016

Our Jubilee show is upon us, coming up in just a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to see everyone there! Contrary to some reports, WE HAVE STALLS AVAILABLE! While we may be tight on space, we should have enough stalls. Electrical hook-ups are our main concern, so get those requests in early!

In May, we had more camping requests than camping sites. We have been working to creatively add some additional camping sites but you may want to bring a generator if you have one, just in case. Or contact our stabling guru, Ron Clark, to check the status of campsites. Thanks to Ron Clark and the exhibitors for being flexible and trying to fit everyone in.

We have a wonderful show weekend planned for our Jubilee Show including some fun activities. An exhibitor dinner, hosted by Jenna Jarboe Training and French Lake Equestrian. A breakfast thanks to Team Frost. We also have our youth scholarships that are based on High Point by division. A mixer event, a costume class and several fun games sponsored by the MPtHA Youth Team. And if that’s not enough, we have four amazing judges and great members exhibiting really nice horses. It will be a great weekend. Come and join us!

Thank you to our volunteer coordinator, Julia Charlsen (jcharlsen@me.com) who helps staff all of our volunteer positions. If you want to get involved and get to know people quickly, contact Julia. Right now, I know we are in need of someone to take charge of the halter, leadline and walk-trot ribbons at the two remaining shows. If you have some time for that, we’d appreciate the help! She also has several other jobs, of all sizes, if you want to get involved.

See you all at our Golden Jubilee Show at the Minnesota Equestrian Center in Winona!

We need a little more love and a little less hate. MPtHA strives to be a place that is a refuge from the harsh realities of the outside “real” world. It’s something I’ve always appreciated.

July 2016

What spectacular weather we’ve had so far this summer in Minnesota. This is what gets us through those ridiculous winter temperatures (shh, don’t tell the out-of-state people).

Just a note that you will see elsewhere too, in Winona we had more camping requests than camping sites. We’ll see how things go in July, but you may want to bring a generator if you have one, just in case. Or contact Ron Clark, to check the status of campsites. This will be really important in August at the Jubilee show when we’re back in Winona, with only 50 sites available. Thanks to Ron Clark and the exhibitors for being flexible and trying to fit everyone in.

It’s not too late to send in your stalls and show entries for the July Show in Verndale at R & J Arena, July 15-17. We will have photographer Kathleen Riley taking ring shots and she will have photographs for sale to exhibitors. The online entry form is up and running and don’t forget the liability release that must be signed by owners, exhibitors and volunteers. The form is on our online entry and available in the show office and on the website.

We have a wonderful show weekend planned in July including some fun activities, an exhibitor dinner, thanks to Wasson Show team. Breakfast treats, thanks to Team Frost. and last but not least an Ice Cream Social, thanks to Team Frost and Windward Farm. We also have our youth scholarships that are based on High Point by division. And if that’s not enough, we have four amazing judges and great members exhibiting really nice horses. It will be a great weekend, come and join us!

As usual, Minnesota Pinto members represented us very well at the Pinto World Championship Show. This must be because of all the great competition at our MPtHA shows! Congratulations to all of you. We are so happy for you and all of your accomplishments!

Thank you to our volunteer coordinator, Julia Charlsen (jcharlsen@me.com) who helps staff all of our volunteer positions. If you want to get involved and get to know people quickly, contact Julia. If you have some time for that, we’d appreciate the help! She also has several other jobs, of all sizes, if you want to get involved.

The thought for the day reflects some of the sad and difficult times we have recently experienced in our community and the country. Prince was such a Minnesota icon and influenced so many, so sad to lose such a talent. The shooting in Orlando at Pulse Nightclub was a tragic and senseless event. This quote tied the two together for me. We need a little more love and a little less hate. MPtHA strives to be a place that is a refuge from the harsh realities of the outside “real” world. It’s something I’ve always appreciated.

We hope to see you all at our show at Verndale in July.
Have a safe and happy July 4th holiday.

Wow, what a difference a year makes! Last year, we had to cancel a show for the first time ever due to EHV-1. This year, we had a record-breaking show! It was great to see such great participation, nice-sized classes and high quality horses. Thank you to our amazing staff, judges and volunteers! We couldn’t do these shows without you, you work your butts off and it shows. I hope many of you plan to show with us at our July show in Verndale. (We know how to have a good time!)

May 2016

Spring has arrived, and if you’re like me, that means hours of brushing, clipping, and preparing for the upcoming Spring Fling Show in beautiful Winona Minnesota, May 28-30th. For the best rate on stabling, be sure to get your stall reservations POSTMARKED by May 13th. Our Spring Fling Show Volunteer Appreciation Dinner will be hosted by Team Sellers – we appreciate your service! And, Julia Charlsen will be recognizing our wonderful volunteers in other ways as well.

Thank you to all who volunteered endless hours to make the Minnesota Pinto booth at the Horse Expo the best one yet, truly one of my favorite events to help educate others on our wonderful association and Pintos. We even made the news!! Minnesota Pinto was on cover of the WSCA Spotlight that was handed out there to thousands of potential members. Thanks, Regina Woolson, for all your work and for leading the volunteer team.

The Board would love to hear your opinions by completing a quick 5 minute survey by May 6th – this was emailed to all our members just a few days ago. We are hoping this will help us improve some of our programs, and YOUR voice matters most. Thank you to Board Member, Maddi Miller for preparing this survey for us. If you are a MN Pinto member, and did not receive the link to the survey, please contact Maddi, each member can take the survey once.

A special thanks to our advertisers for their support in our pattern book. The books will be for sale in the show office for $10 each or you can download the book here. If you haven’t purchased one before, it’s a great resource for home practice. Many thanks to KaLeigh Berg and Jenna Jarboe for your work on the book.

If anyone wants to help with morning show treats at any show, we need helpers. Contact any Board member so we can continue on with our morning goodies.

Till next time!

April 2016

It’s April and that means Spring is officially here along with the MN Horse Expo and the first Minnesota Pinto show is next month.

Please contact Regina Woolson or Julia Charlsen to schedule a shift. Regina is also looking for someone to help co-chair the Expo this year. If you’re interested in a fun job that doesn’t take up time at the Minnesota Pinto Shows and like promotion and marketing, this might be a good fit for you. Please talk to Regina Woolson or Cris Stetler for more information.

Everyone should have received their 50th Anniversary Minnesota Pinto Directory. If you don’t receive it soon, please check with our membership chair, Kari Kay Berg, to make sure that you are a current member and that we have your correct address. It’s one of the best books we’ve ever produced. For over 25 years, members have looked forward to this time of the year, seeing the Minnesota Pinto Directory and all of our member’s accomplishments. Special thanks to our Directory Chair Tammy Nielsen.

The first show is right around the corner and it’s not too early to fill out your stalling requests and entry forms. It’s really helpful at our first show if we have information early as we need to make sure we have papers, membership, Coggins/vaccination reports, etc. input for the first time this season. You can scan and email, or mail those forms to our Show Office Manager, Brenna Voller.

Please note elsewhere in the newsletter, that the Minnesota Pinto Board of Directors has adopted an EHV Vaccination Policy for all Minnesota Pinto shows.

If you are interested in helping MINNESOTA PINTO please take a look at the volunteer opportunities we have listed in the newsletter or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Julia Charlsen. It takes a lot of work to run a club our size and we rely on our volunteers to help us.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the MINNESOTA PINTO shows in 2016! We’re looking forward to a glorious Spring and seeing everyone soon!

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. – [Meditations Divine and Moral] Anne Bradstreet, the Works of Anne Bradstreet

March 2016

As I write this it’s the end of February and warm and rainy, but with the start of March that means that Spring is only weeks away. Time to start cleaning and organizing the trailer, inventorying tack and supplies, planning the show dates and clipping horses. The first show will be here before we know it.

The 2016 Minnesota Pinto Directory is being printed. It will be delivered for distribution at the PtHA Convention and arrive in your mailbox this month. Thank you to all of our advertisers. I can’t wait to see all of the show accomplishments of our members. A HUGE THANK YOU to Tammy Nielsen for handling the Directory this year. Our 50th Anniversary Directory looks great; something to be proud of and I think everyone will love it.

The PtHA Convention in Oklahoma is right around the corner. Congratulations to Tanner Bauman, who will be seated as another Director at the Convention. Tanner will join Kameron Duncanson in representing Minnesota.

Minnesota Horse Expo is right around the corner too. This is a big PR opportunity for MINNESOTA PINTO and we’d love it if you would take some time out of your weekend and volunteer to talk with people about MINNESOTA PINTO at our booth. Please contact Regina Woolson or Julia Charlsen to schedule a shift.

As many of you noticed in the Facebook and email notifications we recently posted, we’ve had a change made to our Fall Show. All of our shows for 2016 had been approved and then we began promoting. After that, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were required by PtHA to find another date for our Fall show. This was a difficult situation as arenas and dates by mid-February are hard to come by. We realize this show falls over the State 4H Show and that people had made plans for vacation, etc. We preferred not to move the October show as well, and even though we tried many different options, we had to change dates and locations in order to have a fourth show in 2016. Many of us put in quite a lot of work to ensure a fourth show and this was the best option we found.
weekend and volunteer to talk with people about MINNESOTA PINTO at our booth. Please contact Regina Woolson or Julia Charlsen to schedule a shift.

If you are interested in helping MINNESOTA PINTO please take a look at the volunteer opportunities we have listed in the newsletter. We have a few positions we need help with and it’s a great time to start a new volunteer job.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the MINNESOTA PINTO shows in 2016! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

February 2016

I hope all of you had as great of a time at the Minnesota Pinto Banquet as I did. I don’t know how they do it, but each year the banquet tops the previous year. Actually, I do have an idea…a lot of hard work from our amazing committee members.

We have received approval from PtHA on our shows for 2016. Look for the 2016 Show Bill on our website and Facebook page. www.minnesotapinto.com

The 2016 Minnesota Pinto Directory is complete and on its way to the printer. Thank you to all of our advertisers. Such a great way for our members to commemorate their show year accomplishments and for Minnesota Pinto it’s a key marketing tool. A HUGE thank you to Tammy Nielsen for doing such a wonderful job on a big project!

February is kind of the calm before the storm of the show season, so enjoy the down time and use it to relax and prepare for the upcoming season. Seems to be the time to buy and sell horses, upgrade tack and trailers and update show clothes without the pressure of packing the trailer.

Enjoy the quiet time and if you are interested in helping MINNESOTA PINTO please take a look at the volunteer opportunities we have listed in the newsletter. It’s a great time to incorporate a new volunteer job into the coming year.

Here’s to a mild remainder of the Winter and an early Spring!

We had a wonderful year of volunteers in 2015. So nice to get to know so many of you and have the work load spread around. THANK YOU to all of you! We have several volunteer opportunities available for those of you willing to get involved and help out. It takes a tremendous amount of people to run Minnesota Pinto but as they say, “Many hands makes light (ok, lighter) work”. If you are willing to help out with any of the above jobs or have another expertise, please contact me or Julia Charlsen at juilacharlsen@me.com . Most jobs don’t take a huge time commitment but would lighten the load of our existing volunteers and ensure our great shows continue to run smoothly. It’s a good way to get to know members of Minnesota Pinto and give a little bit back too.

I’m not much for New Year’s resolutions but I liked both of these. Here’s to a healthy and happy 2016 us all!

December 2015

Well, November was certainly a bonus to spring and the opposite of November last year! I’m welcoming a big El Nino and hoping for a mild winter!

We are finalizing our showbill for 2016. Thank you for all of the input and suggestions from our members. Please know that we review all of the requests and suggestions but due to time constraints and the class schedule we cannot add all of that classes that are requested and this year was a tough sell for new classes. The 2015 showbill will be posted as soon as it’s approved. Please know that we gave thoughtful consideration to MANY options and suggestions and we came up with what we thought was the best showbill for Minnesota Pinto as an organization.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! To all of our volunteers who help calculate and audit our year end points. You are all amazing and dedicated people and are much appreciated!

It’s time to place your ad in our 50th Anniversary Edition, 2016 Minnesota Pinto Directory. Forms are found on our website. Send in your ad request now to Tammy Nielsen and visit the website for details. We are auctioning off the front and back covers at the banquet again this year. The directory goes to all PtHA members in the upper Midwest.

Mark your calendars for the Minnesota Pinto Banquet in Monticello on January 23, 2016. Keep watching our website and facebook page for details. Members should receive their invitation in the mail in mid-December. And don’t forget we need items for our raffle and our silent auction. The proceeds from the silent auction and raffle go to subsidize banquet tickets (by about 50%!) If you have any items to donate or are willing to help solicit for items, please contact Shannon Schermann at shanny_berg@yahoo.com and phone 320-224-3332.

November 2015

What a beautiful fall we’ve had in Minnesota! I’m a true Minnesotan and am hoping that this weather lasts until at least January!

The results of our election are found on the website but I’d like to thank Mark Helvick for collecting and tallying our votes. I want to thank Brenna Voller for her year as Secretary. Brenna is extremely busy and planning a wedding and moving into an At Large Board Member position. Congratulations to KaLeigh Berg on her election to Secretary. Congratulations to Tanner Bauman and Maddi Miller as new Members-At-Large, and Kirsten Skillings on her re-election.

I want to thank Karie Daudt for stepping in this year to fill a vacated Board position. We appreciate all you’ve done this year Karie.

Also a big Thank You to Kathy Linn as she finishes her term on the Board of Directors this year and for all of her time, dedication and effort over many years. Good luck moving into retirement Kathy!

Kameron Duncanson is also leaving the Board of Directors after MANY, MANY years on the Board. Kameron has served in many different positions and helped Minnesota Pinto in many ways over the years. He has taken on some new personal responsibilities but is still the PtHA Director for Minnesota and will still be involved in Minnesota Pinto and you will still see him at the shows. Thank you Kameron!

I also want to thank all of the members who volunteer their time on the Board. Anyone who has served on the Board of Directors or been involved with Committees realizes that these volunteers do much more than go to meetings once a month. They have many volunteer positions within Minnesota Pinto and truly put the best interest of the club and its members, first.

And thank you to all of you that took the time to vote.

For 2016 we have made some changes to the shows. Our May show remains the same, Memorial Day weekend at Minnesota Equestrian Center in Winona. The July show will move out a weekend to July 15-17, 2016 at R&J Arena in Verndale. The August show is also moving out a week, August 25-28, 2016. Minnesota Pinto will be co-hosting a 4-day Jubilee show with Iowa Pinto in Winona. Our fall show is moving from September to October and from Verndale to Winona. The dates are October 14-16, 2016.

Our showbill committee is in the final stages of changes to our showbill for 2016. As a board and show committee, we feel the shows ran pretty well so we are just doing some fine-tuning for the regular showbill. We are also working on developing the showbill for our Golden Jubilee show. This is a much more involved showbill as it is going from 3 days to 4 days and adding many classes. It’s always a difficult process but we try very hard to be logical and fair amongst and between the types of pinto horses. The showbills will be published when finalized. The deadline for show applications and finalized showbills to PtHA is December 31.

Thank you to all of our members that attended the General Membership meeting at Rockford Township Hall and to all of our committee chairs who updated the membership on the business of the club. We had a good meeting, GREAT food and a lot of fun just getting together. It’s always fun to see what Regina comes up with for a group activity…this year was music and some tough ones! Thanks to Stone Ridge Equestrian in Long Lake for the donation of our door prizes.

Mark your calendars for the Minnesota Pinto Banquet in Monticello on January 23, 2016. Keep watching our website and facebook page for details. Plans are underway for the 2016 Minnesota Pinto Directory. Send in your ad request now to Tammy Nielsen and visit the website for details. We are auctioning off the back cover and the center spread at the banquet again this year. The directory will go to all PtHA members in the upper Midwest.

Thought for the day – Volunteers don’t necessarily have the time, they just have the heart.

October 2015

While our 2015 show season was cut short, we packed a lot in it. Our September Celebration was a GREAT way to end our show season. We hope you enjoyed showing with MINNESOTA PINTO in 2015 and plan to join us again next year. You won’t find larger shows and more points than in Minnesota than anywhere in the country. Next year will hold some changes including a 4-day Jubilee show in August at Minnesota Equestrian Center.

I want to thank all of our amazing show staff and volunteers and a great group of judges this year. We could not run our shows without you and we appreciate all of the effort and skill you bring to Minnesota Pinto. You’re awesome!

Special thanks to the YOUTH for serving our Pizza Party on Saturday night. Also, a big thank you to Maple Creek Farm and Team Sellers for hosting the breakfast treats throughout the show weekend.

Don’t miss our General Membership meeting at Rockford Township Hall on October 25. There will be a youth meeting prior to the General Membership meeting and also a pot luck after the meeting. (I hear there are treats for kids at the Youth meeting…)

Tammy Nielsen is working on the Directory for 2016. We’ll be auctioning off the FRONT COVER and BACK COVER at the banquet in January. It’s not too early to reserve your spot. Check our website for the reservation form and start thinking of ideas for your ad. The Minnesota Pinto Directory is a great way to recognize your accomplishments for the year and market your horses or business. We print and distribute 2,000 directories in the upper Midwest.

We are also processing points for year-end awards. Those will be checked and double-checked and the award letters will go out to winners in November. We’ll update you on the Facebook page.

Thank you to the Demchuk family and Ron and Karen Clark for sharing Lauren and Choc’s story with us at the September show. It was truly touching for so many reasons. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the arena. Lauren, your Pinto family is with you all the way!

Thanks to all of you for a great show season!

September 2015

It feels like we are just getting started on our show season and the last show of the season is upon us. It’s the last run for Minnesota points and a great last chance for Zone and Pinto of the Year points. As previously advertised we are offering DOUBLE MINNESOTA POINTS for our September show. You won’t find larger shows and more points than in Minnesota.

It’s not too late to reserve a stall and join us for our September Celebration at R & J Arena in Verndale, MN. Check out our website for the reservation form, showbill and online entry.

If you haven’t already pre-entered online, you have until September 9th to do that. Entering on-line is super easy and makes check in at the show much faster. We devote a computer to check in online entries only. No standing in line behind someone entering at the show. Also, if you pre-enter online you will be entered in a drawing for a free ticket for the Minnesota Pinto Banquet in January.

Don’t miss our FREE Pizza Party on Saturday night hosted by the Youth Club. Thanks to those members that volunteered at the August show including Team Frost for the August dinner, every little bit helps make our shows run like they do.

Don’t miss the presentation of
Chocolate Chip Kisses and Lauren Demchuk Saturday evening. MPtHA will be selling the Breyer model of Choco. Lauren will be available to autograph them. Be sure to get in on our Silent Auction Baskets donated by our trainers and their barns. There are lots of great baskets! Proceeds from the Breyer horses and Trainer Baskets go to Minnesota Children’s Hospital.

We’re starting to plan for our 2016 Directory so start thinking of ideas for your ad. We print and distribute 2,000 directories in the upper Midwest. This is a great way to recognize your accomplishments for the year or market your horses or business. Look for our flyer at the September show, our website and on Facebook.

We are in real need of someone to take on the Silent Auction and Raffle at the Awards Banquet. The Raffle and Banquet typically bring in over $1,000 at the banquet, which we use to subsidize the banquet ticket cost. Aside from a fun event at the banquet, if we don’t find a chair for this function, ticket prices for the banquet could increase about $10 per ticket. If you have some time to devote to this event this fall, through the banquet, please let me know as soon as possible. We have people to help mentor and train. Job description is on the website.

I can’t believe this is the close of our show season…We’ll see you all in Verndale!

August 2015

Thank you to all of you who attended the July Jam at R & J Arena in Verndale. We had a great turnout with large classes and great competition.

Our new show software performed well (along with our awesome show staff). We had a couple of glitches but they were minor and are already corrected. We’ll have many more features up and running in August. Thank you to Karie Daudt for managing this project and for all the hours Brenna Voller has put in and Kari Berg for learning the program so quickly in July.

I was only able to attend the July Jam intermittently throughout the weekend. I was feeling pretty disconnected but when I was on the show grounds, it was so obvious to me how special Minnesota Pinto is…so many people connecting with each other and enjoying each other, their horses and the competition. I loved seeing the camaraderie in each barn/group, and the friendship and fun between people from different barns/groups. That is not always a very common occurrence at horse shows. We are blessed to have such a wonderful group of people and horses to share our passion. I can’t wait to be more in the mix in August!

It’s not too late to reserve a stall for the August Extravaganza at Minnesota Equestrian Center in Winona, August 7-9, 2015. Check out our website for the reservation form.

If you haven’t already pre-entered online, you have a few days left to do that. Entering on-line is super easy and makes check in at the show much easier. We will be devoting a computer to check in online entries only. No standing in line behind someone entering at the show. Also, if you pre-enter online you will be entered in a drawing for a free stall at our September Celebration show. Don’t miss our free Volunteer Appreciation dinner on Friday night – lasagna! Compliments of Minnesota Pinto and hosted by the gang at Rock Star Performance Horses. Kathleen Riley Photography will be at MEC taking ring shots for the weekend. The Ice Cream Social is on Saturday, sponsored by Peter & Helen Frost, served by the gang from Team Frost.

Minnesota Pinto would like to ask all members that attended the Pinto World Championships to bring their awards so we can get a group photo. We’d love to recognize all of our members and their accomplishments at PWC in 2015. We’ll shoot for doing the picture on Saturday of the show. Time to-be-determined but will be announced at the show and on Facebook.

Thanks to those members that have stepped forward to volunteer for some positions we needed to fill. We still have some opportunities to volunteer. We are still looking for 1-2 more people to round out the Year-End Awards Committee. We are in need of a few people to help staff the information table at the August and September shows. If willing, please contact Julia Charlsen.

We’ll see you all in Winona soon. Can’t wait!
